Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions and concerns about “signing up” for therapy.

I never tried therapy, what should I expect?

This is a relationship like no other. Different than talking to friends and family, a therapist does not usually give advice. Many people feel great ambivalence about making changes, whether it's about a relationship (should I stay or should I go?), a job (I've always wanted to start my own business, but I don't have time), or getting fit (I want to lose weight, but I just can't get motivated to workout). My role as a therapist is to facilitate your understanding of yourself. Depending on your goals and preferences, we may engage in movement practices (walking, lifting weights, yoga, etc.) as part of the therapy. Movement based therapies are very effective for those struggling with anxiety/PTSD, depression, body concerns, and other struggles. Whatever your concerns, it is my privilege to assist you in figuring out how to have a more optimal experience of life.

How do I make an appointment?

Call 216-536-5089 or send an email request via the contact page.

Do you accept insurance?

You may use out of network benefits. Most insurance companies will pay a portion of the fee, you simply send a receipt and the insurance company will reimburse you directly.

what if i need to cancel?

24 hr. notice is required to cancel or reschedule and appointment. Failure to give notice means you still are responsible for the fee, exceptions are made for emergencies.

How many sessions does it take?

Sometimes it is helpful to participate in weekly sessions when getting started, 4-8 sessions to lay the groundwork for the therapeutic process. You may opt to meet bi-weekly or monthly to continue the process until you feel progress is made. As needed sessions are helpful for those who enjoy checking in and getting regular “maintenance” to stay on track.

How do i know when it’s time to end therapy?

You might feel that the process has brought the intended results and it’s time to take a break. Most people progress in waves, the door is always open to regular or intermittent sessions.

how does confidentiality work?

Everything we talk about stays between us unless you give me written consent to share info with other providers. Exceptions are made if someone is at risk of being harmed, that is discussed when it applies.

will you give me homework between sessions?

It depends. Some people want direction like that, others may not. I may suggest doing some experiments, but if you don’t do them, it’s always ok. Some people ask for reading recommendations, and that might be helpful also.

what should i do if there’s an emergency or I want to hurt myself?

Tell someone around you and either call 911, or go directly to your nearest emergency room to get an assessment. You may call the 24/7 Crisis Hotline (216-623-6888) through Frontline Service of Cuyahoga County. Check the website, frontlineservice.org.
